DNA Guidelines

  • Each dna needs a point person who ensures that each person in that dna is spiritually healthy, growing and staying focused on the commands. Remember the definition of leadership = accepting the responsibility for enabling others to achieve purpose in the face of uncertainty
  • The dna point person must be one who can function in that capacity with those they are placed with. As the network grows so to must the number of available point persons in order to achieve the vision of making disciple makers.
  • DNAs need to stay focused on the command and story for the week so that they become a part of each person’s daily life experience. (The Great Commission – teaching them to obey all Jesus commanded). Knowing the commands, practicing the commands, telling the stories and encouraging each other in that process.
  • There are three main areas of focus for the dna times together
    • Discipleship = focused discussion on the week’s command and story and how they apply to each person’s life
    • Nurture = focused on personal relationship with Jesus and prayer for each other, speaking life to one another
    • Accountability = focused on obeying, practicing the word in real-life and honesty with each other as to how well he/she is doing with being a doer of the word
  • Need to avoid digressing to simply talking (problems, issues, chatting, etc.) and a little praying at the end. Relationship is an important part of the process, but it is not the goal. The goal is to make disciple-makers who are knowing and obeying the commands of Jesus in an increasing manner on a daily basis.
  • The point persons need to ensure that the dnas are healthy, growing, and staying focused; they are to own the well being, health and growth of the dnas
    • Elders work closely with dna point persons, communicating with them regularly to ensure they are functioning well
    • Verbal communication is ideal and preferred over written forms
  • The number in a dna is not as important as the health and growth, which necessitates having an able point person.
    • Therefore, the number in a dna depends on the particular people involved
    • Three in a dna is optimal
    • Two and four are acceptable, depending on the availability of a point person/coach
    • Five is possible when necessary, especially when new believers join and there is not an point person ready to take on a dna
